THE GERMS
What We Do Is Secret. Blue circle armband burns, peanut-butter-smeared stages at the Whisky a Go Go, and Pat Smear's ferocious Hagström guitar wall.
Formed in Los Angeles in 1976 by Darby Crash (Jan Paul Beahm) and Pat Smear (Georg Ruthenberg), joined by bassist Lorna Doom and drummer Don Bolles. Their single 1979 Slash Records album '(GI)'—produced by Joan Jett—bridged first-wave 1977 Hollywood punk with the raw ferocity of Southern California hardcore, immortalized in Penelope Spheeris's 'The Decline of Western Civilization'.

THE GERMS LINEUP — INDIVIDUAL MUSICIAN PAGES (1)

Co-founder and teenage guitar prodigy of The Germs alongside Darby Crash in 1976. Whilst chaos erupted across the stage at The Masque and Whisky a Go Go, Pat Smear anchored the storm with ferocious, inventive chord voicings on his Hagström Scandi, later joining Nirvana (1993–1994) and Foo Fighters.
